Ganapatipule : Ganapatipule is a small village, serene, sedate and unspoilt. The beach here is still natural and pristine as ever. And travelling by road is an experience by itself. The vast ‘Konkan stretch abounds with scenic greenery There are narrow mud-roads, the earth is red and the roofed houses with clean courtyards add a quaint touch to the panorama. The local vegetation includes fruit-bearing trees like mango, betel nut, banana, jackfruit, coconut etc.

The Swayambhu Ganapati Temple is believed to be 400 years old. According to legend, a farmer while walking through the Kerda jungles discovered the idol of Ganapati and later on he built a temple around the idol.The Ganapati idol in the temple is built of pure white sand. The other idol of Lord Ganapati is made of copper and placed in the sanctum sanctorum. This idol is different from the previous one as it depicts the god riding on a lion.This temple is located 20 km from the town of Ratnagiri and early in the morning nagaras can be heard as a part of religious ceremonies conducted here

Prachin Konkan is a life size museum set in a sprawling three acre campus in Ganpatipule depicting life in yester years in Konkan. A guided tour in the museum takes you through various aspects of life in Konkan in the past. The museum elucidates the social, economic, cultural and religious background of Konkan. The museum puts on display the grandeur of the history of Konkan region. Tarkarli Sightseeing

Tarkarli : Tarkarli is a village in Malvan taluka in Sindhudurg district in the Indian state of Maharashtra. It is tourist destination and a coral beach. This village is famous for its Ramnavmi Utsav, Ramnavmi is celebrated every year in Mahapurush Temple of the village. Tarkarli has the state’s only scuba diving training centre.

Tarkarli is a pristine water beach, which is located at a union of the Arabian Sea and Karli River. Tarkarli Beach is about 6 km on the southern part of Malvan and 546 km from Mumbai. This beach is popular among the travellers because of its clear waters and a deep-sea bed of about 20 ft.

Meaning of the word Sindhudurg in Marathi language is a fort that is built on Ocean floor. Sindhudurg Fort is said to be built under the supremacy of King Shivaji with the assistance of over 100 Portuguese architects and over 1000 workers. It took about 3 years for the workforce to complete this fort from the year 1664 to 1667.  The foundation of the fort consists of about 4000 mounds of iron and is spread over 50 acres of land. This fort, which also houses the temples of Hanuman, Jarimari and Goddess Bhavani, was constructed under the supervision of Hiroji Indulkar, who was a noted architect of that era. The rampart of the fort consists of 42 bastions and it boasts of a height of 4 km.

One of the main beaches of the Konkan region, Alibaug beach has the darkest sands and is pristinely beautiful. The beach is named after the Mazhar of Ali Shah Bawa, located at the heart of the town. Kolaba fort is visible from the beach. For the safety of the tourists, the government has built a platform here.

Lined across the horizon at the Alibaug beach, the Kolaba fort is at a distance of 1km from the beach. The fort was constructed by the great Maratha warrior, Shivaji Maharaj. It is a massively constructed structure 25 ft high, 350 ft wide and a sprawling 900 ft. Long.

Located within the premises of Kanakeshwar Devasthan Temple, the Hanuman temple is 13kms away from Alibaug. God Hanuman, an ardent devotee of Lord Rama is worshipped here. The scenic beauty of this temple that is located on a hill top is absolutely breathtaking. One should visit the place to believe in its serene and intricate beauty.

Popular as Shiva temple, at a distance of about 13 kms from Alibaug is the Kanakeshwar Devasthan Temple, located on a hill at an altitude of 900 feet. Climb some 5000 odd steps to reach this this temple.

Kihim Beach is situated 12 km from Alibaug and 120 km from Mumbai. The beach lies to the north of the city and is surrounded by various trees with colourful butterflies, coconut trees and wild flowers.
The Kihim Beach retains its natural beauty as it is an undiscovered land. Beautiful migratory and resident birds are found in abundance at the beach, which attract tourists in large number.Kolaba Fort is situated in the vicinity of the beach and can be seen from a distance.Travellers visiting the sight can see tents with modern facilities present at the beach.

 

 

#Janjira Fort

Janjira Fort is a 16th century fort surrounded by the Arabian Sea and is one of the strongest marine forts of India. It was once owned by the Siddi Dynasty and has survived numerous attacks of the British.
The fort was built by the Koli Chief in the 15th century and originally had wooden architecture. This fort was later captivated by the General of Nizamshah of Ahmednagar, Pir. The fort is encircled by nineteen round bastions. The turrets and towers of the fort were used for keeping ammunitions. The outer gate of the fort has a figure of a tiger with an elephant captured in its claws.

The Garambi Falls and its surroundings are a visual treat to the eyes during the monsoons. Water cascades down from a height of 100 feet and is pure and is suitable for drinking. The falls is not a perennial one and is best visited during and immediately after the monsoon.
#Gol Gumbaz

Gol Gumbaz is one of the most famous architectural marvels of Murud Janjira.Built during the 1600’s the Gol Gumbaz is the tomb of Mohammad Adil Shah,the former ruler of Bijapur.The seven storied Gol Gumbaz attracts a large number of tourists,architecture lovers and historians.Built in an octagonal shape,the Gol Gumbaz is famous for its unique acoustic movement with sounds echoing back nine times.

Kashid is popular mainly because of its white sand, blue seas, green mountains, paddy fields, and rivulets. Kashid has a 3 km stretch of beach tucked in between two rocky hillocks with Casuarina groves all along the seashore. This is by far the best beach in this part of the Konkan region and, though absolutely deserted on weekdays, the town can attract its fair share of week-end holiday makers. There are a few small hotels in Kashid as the rest of the area is privately owned. Best option to stay here to stay in cottages owned by local people.It costs 1000 Rs for a room on weekends. They offer konkani fish thali which is very sumptuous.The waves here are unusually high and can be a paradise for surfing. The waves can reach a height of 5–6 feet even during the non-monsoon months. However they are dangerously high during the monsoons and surfing is not recommended during the months of June to September.Kashid was not known as a tourist attraction till the mid 90s. It was only after travelers to Murud Janjira started stopping to spend some time after noticing the beauty of the beach .
