Munnar Sightseeing

Munnar : Munnar is one of the most popular hill stations in South India.  It is nestled in Western Ghats at an altitude of 6000 ft and is located in Idukki district of Kerala.  This picturesque hill station beckons nature lovers from far and near. Large tea plantations, forests, hill ranges, valleys and wildlife makes anyone fall in love with this place. I am going to share 13 places that you should visit (or try to) when you are in Munnar.

#Mattupetty Dam

Mattupetty dam and its reservoir  is  located 13 km away from Munnar.  This concrete gravity dam is built between the hill ranges and it is used mainly for water storage for hydroelectric projects. Its reservoir is an idyllic place to enjoy the serene nature. It is also said to be one of the waterholes where the elephants in the region often visit.

 
  #Kundala Lake

Kundala Lake is an artificial reservoir of a minor arch shaped dam huddled between the mountain ranges. It is about a 20 km drive from Munnar. There is boating facility there..and  don’t forget to go for a Shikara boat ride while you are there.

#Echo Point

Echo Point  is about 15 km from Munnar. Go there and scream as loud as you can..and wait for a minute. You can hear your echo back! Its quite interesting. If you have kids with you..they will love it. They can experience this natural phenomenon firsthand.

 
  #Rajamalai (Part of Eravikulam National Park)

Rajamala, part of Eravikulam national park, is located at about 15 kms from Munnar.  This region is the natural habitat of the Nilgiri Tahr (Hemitragas hylocres). It was converted to a national park to provide a safe sanctuary  for the already endangered species of Nilgiri Tahr.

#Tea Museum

This tea museum is first of its kind in India. It is located at KDHP’s Nullatanni estate in Munnar. The aim of this museum according to its founders is to showcase the growth of more-than-a-century-old tea plantations in this region. Anyone visiting this museum will get a clear  picture of how laborious this tea processing really is.

 
#Attukad Waterfalls

Now this is a scenic waterfalls located between Munnar and Pallivasal. It is just 9 km away from Munnar. But this waterfalls will be in its full glory only after the monsoon (Rainy season). During other seasons, it is just a trickling mountain stream.

Shimla – Places to Visit

Shimla also known as Simla, is the capital city of the Indian state of Himachal Pradesh, located in northern India. Shimla is home to a number of buildings that are styled in the Tudorbethan and neo-Gothic architectures dating from the colonial era, as well as multiple temples and churches. The colonial architecture and churches, the temples and the natural beauty of the city attract large number of tourist making Shimla one of the most sought after tourist location in the country
 Shimla Mall Road in Rainy Season Mall Road :- Mall Road is the main street in Shimla, the capital city of Himachal Pradesh, India. Constructed during British colonial rule. The offices of municipal corporation, fire service, and police headquarters are located here. Automobiles, except emergency vehicles are not allowed on this road. Mall road has a number of showrooms, department stores, shops, restaurants and cafes. woollen cloths, branded cloths, pottery items, and jewellery is also located here.
Christ Church :- Shimla, is the second oldest church in North India, after St John’s Church in Meerut. It is a parish in the Diocese of Amritsar in the Church of North India. It is designed in the typical Elizabethan style and consists of a great collection of books and ancient scriptures. The church looks absolutely magical during night when lights placed at strategic corners illuminate this beautiful church. Worship is conducted in Hindi and English  Shimla kufri church
Shimla snowfall-in-kufri Kufri :- Kufri is a small hill station in Shimla district of Himachal Pradesh state in India. It is located 13 km from the state capital Shimla on the National Highway No.22. Kufri has a Himalayan wild life zoo which hosts rare antelopes, felines and birds including the Himalayan monal, the state bird of Himachal Pradesh

Shimla-kalka-toy train express Toy Train :- Kalka to shimla through toy train offers a grand view of pine covered hill tops, flora and fauna, and the typical picture which makes the hills, queen of hills. Toy train is the best mode of transport to explore the treasuries of great Himalayas. Toy train has now come under the world heritage list of UNESCO and stands at fourth rank. Chail :- Chail is a hill station in Himachal Pradesh, India. Chail is 44 km from Shimla and 45 km from Solan.  It is the world’s highest cricket ground. Chail has many offerings for tourists. Chail stipulates for adventure seeking tourist, as it is being located in several mountain ranges and dark green forests. Shimla Naldehra Naldehra :-  22 km from Shimla and surrounded by beautiful deodar trees. Naldehra has a well kept nine-hole golf-course. It is a lovely, popular picnic spot. The annual Sipi fair in June is held in Naldehra.​
