Mount Abu Sightseeing

Mount Abu : Mount Abu is a famous tourist destination, which serves as a getaway from the heat of Rajasthan. It is actually the only hill station in the midst of desert. Apart from picturesque views, the hill station has some of the most renowned temples, and a wildlife sanctuary as well. Mount Abu houses some of the famous Jain temples, such as the Dilwara temples.

The lotus like engravings on the ceilings and the different scenes from the Jain and Hindu mythology represented through carved marble sculptures are sure to leave you awestruck.

The highest point in mount abu and forms the highest point in the Aravalli mountain range. The place is perfect to get a panoramic view of the whole region and is famous for its temple of Guru Dattatreya an incarnation of the Hindu Deities ‘Brahma, Vishnu and Shiva’ in one. While many wouldn’t find much in this place apart from the various temples and the amazing views, it was quiet natural to me to take out my trusty paperback and get lost in the enticing plot amidst the enchanting surroundings.

The Adhar Devi Temple is one of the popular religious themed tourist destinations in the Mount Abu region. It is situated three kilometers north of the main town of Mount Abu. The Adhar Devi Temple can be reached by climbing up 365 stairs carved into the mountain. The temple itself is located inside a rocky cleave and is reached by crawling through a small opening into the cave. The Adhar Devi Temple is dedicated to the Goddess Durga. It got its name because the legend has it that “Adhar” of the Mataji (Goddess deity) fell here, also it was believed that the image of the goddess could be found there hanging in mid air. Jal Mahal or the Water Palace is one of the classic names in the list of Rajputana architecture. Located in the middle of the Man Sagar Lake, this palace is also a fusion of Mughal and Rajput styles of architecture. Built in red sandstone, Jal Mahal is a five-storey building, of which four storeys remain underwater when the lake is filled. This in turn, offers a breathtaking view of the palace and makes it one of the important Jaipur tourist places. Since the palace is located in the middle of the lake, traditional boats are used to reach the palace. The Mahal was constructed by Maharaja Sawai Pratap Singh in 1799. True to the name it earned as the ‘Palace of the Winds’, Hawa Mahal has 953 windows to provide ventilation. The five-storey building does not have steps to reach upper floors. Slopes connect the storeys and it is said that the Mahal was constructed to enable the Royal women of Rajput family to view the happenings in the city
#Amber Fort
It was constructed by Raja Mansingh in the year 1592. It was later expanded by Raja Jai Singh I. The red sandstone and marble stone construction reflect a blend of Hindu-Muslim architecture. The main entrance faces east and there are three more entrances. There are four courtyards in Amber Palace. One of the courtyards has the Public Audience Hall, called the Diwan-i-Aam. The place provides you an opportunity to ride on elephant. Though it is only a ten-minute walk to the fort, which is uphill, you will want to try it on an elephant.

It took about 3 years for the workforce to complete this fort from the year 1664 to 1667.  The foundation of the fort consists of about 4000 mounds of iron and is spread over 50 acres of land. This fort, which also houses the temples of Hanuman, Jarimari and Goddess Bhavani, was constructed under the supervision of Hiroji Indulkar, who was a noted architect of that era. #Janjira Fort

Janjira Fort is a 16th century fort surrounded by the Arabian Sea and is one of the strongest marine forts of India. It was once owned by the Siddi Dynasty and has survived numerous attacks of the British.
The fort was built by the Koli Chief in the 15th century and originally had wooden architecture. This fort was later captivated by the General of Nizamshah of Ahmednagar, Pir. The fort is encircled by nineteen round bastions. The turrets and towers of the fort were used for keeping ammunitions. The outer gate of the fort has a figure of a tiger with an elephant captured in its claws.

Kashid is popular mainly because of its white sand, blue seas, green mountains, paddy fields, and rivulets. Kashid has a 3 km stretch of beach tucked in between two rocky hillocks with Casuarina groves all along the seashore. This is by far the best beach in this part of the Konkan region and, though absolutely deserted on weekdays, the town can attract its fair share of week-end holiday makers. There are a few small hotels in Kashid as the rest of the area is privately owned. Best option to stay here to stay in cottages owned by local people.It costs 1000 Rs for a room on weekends. They offer konkani fish thali which is very sumptuous.The waves here are unusually high and can be a paradise for surfing. The waves can reach a height of 5–6 feet even during the non-monsoon months. However they are dangerously high during the monsoons and surfing is not recommended during the months of June to September.Kashid was not known as a tourist attraction till the mid 90s. It was only after travelers to Murud Janjira started stopping to spend some time after noticing the beauty of the beach .

#Jim Corbett National Park

Jim Corbett National Park has gained popularity due to the extensive work done by the famous conservationist and writer Jim Corbett. Established in 1936, the national park has been named after its founder, Jim Corbett. Once known as the Hailey National Park, this popular reserve has the distinction of being the first to be awarded the status and the title of national park. With the help and support from World Wildlife Fund, the park came under the aegis of Project Tiger in 1973. Spread over an area of about 520 sq. km, out of which 330 sq. km forms the core area, the park supports mixed deciduous and Sal forests, and Savannah grasslands. Owing to its location in the Himalayan low lands, many water bodies flow through the park, supporting the diverse vegetation.
The park is an abode to 580 bird species, 50 mammalian species and 25 reptile species. Apart from a number of nocturnal and diurnal species, the park is also home to various species of deer and wild boars. However, centre of attraction of the park is its tiger population. At the park, tourists can view leopards, jungle cats and many other animals.

Kausani also proves as a great base for the Pindari and Gafri glaciers. The famous temple of Baijnath is within a range of 20 km from this place. In other words, the place has a lot of excursions with which to keep you occupied throughout your trip, right from the glaciers to the temples of Uttarakhand.

Baijnath Temple is a considered to be 1,000 years old and is dedicated to the Hindu deity Shiva. The temple was consecrated in 1204 AD and is a fine specimen of the North Indian Nagara style of architecture. The sources suggest that a Shiva temple has existed since ages before the present structrure was constructed in 1204. The temple also provides some of the most amazing views of the surrounding mountain ranges.
