Jaisalmer Sightseeing

Jaisalmer : The Golden City of Jaisalmer in Rajasthan is simply unmatched. It was the part of the famous Silk Route during the days of yore. The splendid Jaisalmer Fort stands proudly on its land and narrates the stories of the valor and chivalry of the Rajput rulers. Jaisalmer still retains its medieval charm, which is evident in its colorful narrow streets, splendid forts and palaces of Rajasthan, opulent havelis and bazaars.
The otherwise barren land of Jaisalmer comes alive once every year during winters. It is the time when the festivities of Desert Festival slowly start engulfing the Desert City. During the festival in Jaisalmer, the city displays the wealth of its culture and traditions to the rest of the world. The festival expresses the people’s zeal for the life and is a colorful extravaganza of fun, frolic, laughter and adventure.

  #Jaisalmer Fort

A five-storied structure constructed in a traditional Rajasthani method. The rich heritage of the Jaisalmer fort can be seen portrayed in the novel written by Satyajit Ray which was later turned into a movie. The architectural pattern this fort is divided into three layers of walls. The outside layer is made up of solid stone blocks. The forts of Rajasthan are very intricate in nature. The second layer goes around the fort. The inward partition is the third layer which was used by Rajput warriors to hurl boiling water, oil, blocks of rocks on the enemies. This enigmatic structure is sure to keep your eyes wide open.

#Patwon ki Haveli

The Patwon ki Haveli is considered to be one of the most important Havelis of Jaisalmer because of two important things: it was the first Haveli to be ever built in Jaisalmer and it is a cluster of 5 different havelis making it one of the biggest Havelis. The other name given to this Haveli is the “mansion of brocade merchants” because the Patwa family used to deal in gold and silver.

Currently, the Haveli is taken care of by the Rajasthan government. The gateways and arches of this Haveli are also masterpieces. The entire Haveli is made of yellow sandstone and the main gateway of this Haveli is brown.

This Haveli is slightly different from the other Havelis in terms of art and sculpture. The roof of this Haveli has been built in the form of a peacock. At the entrance of the Haveli, there are tuskers made of sand stones guarding the haveli. This haveli has 38 balconies and each balcony has its own artistry. The name given to this Haveli is Jahaz mahal because of the front of the haveli resembling ship stern. Thrillophilia recommends a visit to this Haveli to see how beautiful art can be.

#Thar Desert

Camel Safari is a oldest & but the best way to explore the beauty of the Thar Desert in Jaisalmer. The starting point of the Jaisalmer Camel Safari is the Jaisalmer city. We would say that a tour to Jaisalmer is incomplete without a evening trip to the desert. The safari isn’t expensive and can be done on Camels {best option} and private taxi.In the safari one can easily spot Chinkaras a rear breed of dears, local villages who haven’t seen the signs of globalization. desert peacocks and a sunset which we can guarantee that you would have never seen. Then in the night we will have a nice dinner at a desert camp and will even stay there for the night. Desert camps are amazing as they will arrange Rajasthani mujra, puppet show and other entertainment programs for you.

doddabetta-peak #Doddabetta Peak

A visit to Doddabetta Peak was the reason I went to Ooty in the first place. I had heard a lot about the picturesque Nilgiris and the amazing views this place has to offer. The place stands at a height of around 8,650 feet and makes it the highest peaks in south India. This place offers amazing trek spots and plenty of quiet and picturesque locations to solitary wanderers like me. You might want to pack some really good pair of binoculars when you reach this place to enjoy it to the fullest. There is a small eatery placed here courtesy of the tourism department of Tamil nadu that offers some okay tasting food at a cheap price.

shooting-point  #Shooting Point

Ootyis a lovely meadow surrounded by hill sides. Picturesque and dream like, the best place to view the surrounding landscape is from the Shooting Point, a rather steep climb for most. Lush green and interspersed with rocks, the place is ideal for those interested in landscape and scenic photography.

There is always the option to go up on horseback or just ride along in the area, but the actual fun is in trekking here. A calm and serene lake makes a lovely picnic spot or a place to just sit and rejuvenate oneself.

#Botanical Gardens

located at the slopes of the Doddabetta peak. The terraced garden is maintained by the Tamil nadu horticultural society and covers an area of 22 hectares. The best time to visit the place is anytime except the monsoons. Now this place will be the first thing the people would mention when you visit ooty, and well, in my opinion it is pretty awesome. Now be prepared for a long walk when you visit this place, I would advise you not to get any kids or people who can’t walk for long. The place is amazing for photographers and casual visitors alike get a supply of food and drinks or you can also buy some snacks at the gardens. I visited this place because of my photographer friends and was totally amazed due to the amount of greens and flowers around me under an amazingly cool weather.
